Nicholas Chaundy A SERENADE LEFT UNHEARD Oil on linen 80 x 95 cm 100 x 115 cm (framed) 2022 All peacefully she lies in slumber, No gloomy thoughts her dreams encumber Behind the soft veil of her lid, But secret wonderworlds lie hid Within the mystery of her eyes, In the dark of her pupils' skies. Gently the moon touches her cheek As she sleeps so quietly and meek; I wish my kisses could as well. How soft her skin, how sweet her smell: All about her delights my senses, My heart's thirst arouses and quenches. O may my words have wings to fly, O may her voice to mine reply! And streaming down Guadalquivir I'd swiftly run towards my dear... But these are dreams -alas!- absurd Like this serenade left unheard. - Alessandro del Taglia Biography: Nicholas Chaundy is a contemporary portrait artist and figurative painter based in Florence. He is a graduate of Falmouth University and Central St Martins, and of The Florence Academy of Art, where he is currently Principal Instructor in the intermediate and Advanced Painting Programs. Nicholas received his Foundation Diploma in Fine Arts from Central St Martins, then moved to Falmouth, Cornwall, to study Fine Arts at Falmouth University. With no prior formal training, Nicholas fully immersed himself in the world of fine art during the three-year program, reading about, practicing and discovering the techniques of traditional painting and drawing that had been practiced for centuries by the masters he admired. After graduating, he moved to Bristol to work as a portrait painter, then moved to Florence to study at the prestigious Florence Academy of Art. Here he went on to further his understanding of 19th century techniques in portraiture, figurative and still life painting. Whilst studying at the Florence Academy, Nicholas received a scholarship, and completed the three-year program in just over two years. Now working privately, Nicholas specializes in contemporary realism. He is deeply interested in investigating the nuances that inspired and have given rise to the great artists of the past. Nicholas uses these nuances to create works with a certain theme or aesthetic, indicative of historic ‘styles’ or movements in Art. * The Florence Academy of Art is a non-profit 501c3 entity. A note from International Academy of Fine Art: The Florence Academy of Art is a branch of the International Academy of Art and provides fine arts training to students seeking to become painters and sculptors in the realistic tradition. The Academy is deeply grateful to the auctions’s patrons as proceeds will go to the scholarship fund to help talented students in financial need complete their studies.
